On a traditional two-piece system, the coupling ring forms a rigid ring that must be pressed to attach the pouch. The Esteem synergy skin barrier replaces this ring with a flat adhesive coupling surface, so the pouch attaches directly to the barrier, with no ring to snap on. The Stomahesive barrier remains the part that rests on the skin around the stoma.
